Since the Arab Spring in early 2011, the illegal trade of ivory across Eygpt and other African countries has been booming. The political unrest of the Arab Spring allowed for the illegal smuggling of elephant tusks within Africa and out to other countries, in particular China. A recent report has shown Egypt to be at the center of illegal ivory trade and smuggling in Africa.
The subject of illegal ivory trade is something that I find fascinating, and would love to incorporate into my project. I have a passion for science and nature, yet I know that a strong news story is often hard to find without a human angle, this has both. I have also grown to understand the Arab Spring more and more since starting the course, and would really like the opportunity to cover it in my own way.
