Europe’s largest commercial cruise ship, Costa Concordia, run aground off the Italian coastline on 14th January 2012.
Of the 5000 passengers and crew on board, 5 have been confirmed dead, and 16 remain unaccounted for, 48 hours after the event took place.
Given the panic and mayhem that would have ensued after such a disaster, the crew members did a fantastic job in helping nearly all of the passengers off the ship to safety. All of the British nationals are confirmed to be alive.
The rescue operation is still under way, but many fear the worst for the remaining people not found. Officials are now turning to the captain, and why he was on a course so close to land?
